Christiana Care Middletown Emergency Center

DEDC-Cx provided third party commissioning services for the Christiana Care Health Systems, Middletown Emergency Center.

This new 70,000 square foot two-story building houses a fully functioning Freestanding Emergency Department (FED).  The FED occupies the entire first floor of the facility and features imaging space as well as clinical and other medical areas including:

  • Cardiac diagnostic units
  • Quick-track rooms
  • Decontamination room
  • Nurses stations
  • Doctor’s offices
  • Reception/Processing Station
  • Laboratories
  • Chemistry
  • Hematology
  • Resuscitation room
  • Isolation rooms
  • Radiology rooms
  • Police room
  • Treatment rooms

The second floor of the building features a community center with a capacity for 200 persons and medical offices and meeting rooms.   There is also a detached Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) building and helipad on the Freestanding Emergency Department site.

The project was constructed to I-2 Standards to allow expansion to a full hospital in the future. The buildings and associated site work will include “Green” technologies in order to achieve LEED certification.
